DAY TRIP IDEAS at Lake Edersee
Looking for day trip ideas at Lake Edersee – without long drives? Around Camping Edersee Paradies you’ll find nature, water, viewpoints and great activities for families. Here are our favourite places in the area.
And of course there’s plenty to do right on our campsite at Lake Edersee: an outdoor kitchen, ferry and boat rental, table tennis, volleyball and football field, a swimming meadow, restaurant, lots of farm animals, stargazing or simply relaxing by the campfire.

Kellerwald National Park
This national park is a real highlight if you’re looking for peace, forest and hiking trails. Short loop walks to viewpoints and lakeside areas are especially beautiful – perfect for half a day. For families, shorter routes usually work best (don’t forget a picnic).
Duration: 2–5 hours Best for: nature, hiking, photography Tip: start early = fewer people.
Lake Edersee Cruise
If you want to enjoy Lake Edersee in a relaxed way, a boat cruise is ideal. Especially with kids – or if you simply want to sit back and take it easy – it’s a lovely change of pace.
Duration: depending on the route 1–2+ hours Best for: families, couples, relaxed days
Tip: check departure times in advance – they vary by season.

German Fairy Tale Route
Perfect for days when you’d rather combine charming towns, culture and small stops. The Fairy Tale Route connects several scenic places – great if you like to take breaks along the way (café, old town, viewpoints).
Duration: flexible, from 2 hours to a full day trip Best for: couples, culture, rainy days Tip: pick 1–2 stops instead of trying to do “everything”.
Summer Toboggan Run
Action, fun, and often short waiting times outside peak hours – for many kids, it’s the holiday highlight. Ideal if you want an “active outing” without hiking all day.
Duration: 1–3 hours Best for: families, teenagers Tip: weekdays or early in the day = more relaxed.

Corn Maze
The corn maze is a great idea if you want something different from “just nature”: solve puzzles together, find your way, laugh – and afterwards there’s often a small snack or farm shop nearby.
Duration: 1–2 hours Best for: families, groups
Edersee Dam
The dam is the classic – and for good reason. You can walk across it, take photos and enjoy the water and scenery. Perfect for a short outing (also beautiful in the evening).
Duration: 45–90 minutes Best for: everyone, even with limited time Tip: combine it with a cruise or a stop in Waldeck.

Edersee Wildlife Park
A great destination for families: animals, loop trails and often good spots for a break in between. If the weather is nice, it’s a very “stress-free” outing – kids can watch, walk and be amazed.
Duration: 2–4 hours Best for: families, animal lovers Tip: mornings are often the most pleasant.
