Edersee ferry Asel-Süd – Asel, hikers and cyclists

FERRY ASEL-SÜD – ASEL

The Edersee ferry (Asel-Süd–Asel) operates seasonally, because the water level is not always sufficient. Usually the ferry starts running again from Maundy Thursday – as soon as the water level allows it (+234 m above sea level). Then the crossing over the Edersee is possible again.

Opening hours:

Tue–Sat 10 am – 5 pm | Sun 1 – 5 pm

In bad weather, please call to check.

Getting there & boarding

The dock is located at Edersee Paradies in Asel-Süd, and on the other side at the dock on the shore near Asel. Please follow the local signs and the instructions when boarding and leaving the ferry.

Who is the Edersee ferry useful for?

The ferry is ideal as a shortcut for trips around the lake – especially for cyclists, hikers, and guests who want to get to the other shore quickly.

Boat Rental

At our boat rental right by the campsite, you can experience Lake Edersee in an active way: we rent out pedal boats, rowing boats, canoes and SUP boards. Perfect for a relaxing ride, small discovery tours into the bays, or simply enjoying the view. Please follow the on-site information regarding weather, water levels and safety rules.

Swimming in Lake Edersee

In summer, Lake Edersee is a great place for swimming in many spots — from natural little bays to lidos with easy access to the water. The lake is generally considered a clean bathing lake: official EU bathing sites in Hesse are monitored regularly, and Lake Edersee has recently been rated as having excellent” water quality. At our campsite, you’ll find a lovely grassy sunbathing lawn, and from the pitches it’s only about 200 m downhill to the lake. Swimming near us is usually possible until around water level +233 m above sea level (often until late August, depending on the water level).
